Mizoram State Library was housed in a rented building since its inception till 2011. A new building was constructed with the help of grant received under the matching scheme of Raja Rammohun Roy Library Foundation amounting to Rs. 125.00 lakhs. The work commence w.e.f 15th April 2007 and completed on 22nd December 2009. The building is a 4 (four) storied RCC framed structure i.e. Basement I, Basement – II, Ground Floor & First Floor. The total area of the building is 1300.87 sq.m. The building was inaugurated by the then Chief Minister of Mizoram, Shri Lalthanhawla in March 2011.
The National Mission on Libraries facilitates assistance for the upgradation of libraries providing services to the public. An assistance extending to Rs. 100.00 lakh was availed on matching basis for extension of existing library building. Extension works in the west wing of the library commence in 2015 and was inaugurated in March 2018.
